Here are some interesting but often overlooked facts about the Gospel:

  • Christ went to the cross because he chose to and not because men sent him there (John 10:18)
  • Sin not only separates us from God, it brings His wrath against us (Eph 2:3)
  • We aren’t the victims of a sinful nature, we are the criminals (Romans 1:18-20)
  • God’s love for us is so strong that even while His anger burned against our sin, He bore the penalty for that sin. (Romans 5:8)
  • The animal sacrifices in the Old Testament did NOT satisfy God’s wrath against sin. (Hebrews 10:8-10)
  • God was pleased to enact his wrath against our sin onto His Son. (Isaiah 53:10-11)
  • God’s goal in saving us was NOT simply to free us from an eternity in Hell, He was freeing us from slavery to sin.  (Romans 6:6)
  • After salvation takes place in the believer, he/she can stand before God holy and blameless.  Your sins were paid for 2000 years ago. (Eph 1:4-5)
  • Every sin ever committed will reep punishment by God.  Those sins are either punished on the cross OR in an eternity of Hell.  (Romans 2:5-6, Hebrews 9:28)

Great Date Ideas

In a few weeks, we’ll be starting our new study entitled Growing Our Marriages in Christ.   To kick this off, lets start forming a list of Great Date Ideas.  This is a list of things that couples can do to spend time together in a unique way.  Dinner and a movie is NOT a unique date night.

So give us your date night ideas and we’ll put them on this list.

GREAT DATE IDEAS:

- Go to dinner at the Jacksonville Landing and then take the river cruise over to Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse for coffee and dessert.

- Send your date ideas to jhwood714@yahoo.com

A few people have asked me what our next series of bible studies will cover.  Here is the tentative schedule:

August 1:   Revelation Review and Trivia Challenge

August 8:  Becoming a Mission-Minded Small Group

August 15, 22, 29  – Understanding the Gospel

Starting in September:  Growing our Marriages in Christ

I came across this while reading Matt Chandler’s blog.  While it certainly doesn’t resonate with the world’s idea of a modern independent woman, this top 10 list is a great summary of God’s call on every wife.

The Top Ten List for Wives

- My relationship with God is my highest priority
- My relationship with my husband is second to my relationship with God
- Be subject to my own husband so that he may be won without a word by my conduct when he sees my respectful and pure conduct
- Let my adorning be the hidden person of the heart with the imperishable beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit
- Do your husband good and not harm all the days of your life
- Respect your husband
- Guard my heart at all times
- Build your husband up and let him know you desire him
- Live my life with a spirit of forgiveness
- Meditate on what Jesus did for me on the cross and understand who you are in Christ

There were six of us from the Young Married’s class representing at the Be The Church project this weekend.   We got our hands dirty and our shirts sweaty as we shared God’s love with some good ol’ hard work!

A job well done from our group made up of:
Ryan - April – Kris – Lori – CMac – Jon

Over the past 9 months, our class has steadily marched through the book of Revelation.  We’ve read about God’s vengeance towards sinners, his love of humanity, and his unwavering desire to see mankind repent and seek Him.  Despite the HUGE ramifications of such truths, I wake up everyday just hoping to get by without much stress.  Having talked with most of you, I sense you probably live in much the same way.  Clearly, there is a huge disconnect between the enormity of the truths in the book of Revelation and the mediocrity with which we live out our daily lives.

At last week’s SBC pastor’s conference, David Platt stirred my heart with his message about the radical call of the gospel.   Please take 10 minutes to listen to this excerpt from a message he gave a few years ago at his church in Birmingham.  The call to follow Christ is so much more than a call to live a moral life or attend a local church.  As Matt Chandler says, its a call to live life on purpose.
